Book Overview

Sisters Dechen and Yeshey are now learning about Lolay, an old custom from western Bhutan, where children go caroling the day before Nyilo, wishing everyone in the village a happy year of harvest and good health. Households greet the carolers with food, snacks, and money, and the children celebrate with a picnic at the end.

Lolay is a lovley book written by a very young Bhutanese author Yeshey Tsheyang Zam. I was inspired to read this book mostly because it is written by a young author at a very young age.
Lolay is a book which refects our traditional Bhutanese celebration of singing Lolay Lolay during a festival called Nyilo. In western Bhutan, during a festival called Nyilo, children go around house to house singing a chant called Lolay which has a deep significance of blessing and wishing the family a good year.
In this book too, children go around singing Lolay. in return they are gifted with food, money, sweets and gifts. Finally, children are able to go for a picnic with the things thay have received.
I enjoyed reading this book and learnt a lot about our culture. I request young readers like me to kindly read this copy. you all will surely enjoy it.
