Achyut Bhandari


Born in Damphu, Tsirang in 1953, Achyut Bhandari completed his education in Bhutan and Australia with Bachelor's in Economics (University of Western Australia, 1975) and Masters in Social Change & Development (University of Newcastle, 2010). He also did postgraduate studies in International Relations (Jawaharlal Nehru University, India, 1977). He has a long and illustrious career as a diplomat in the Bhutanese Foreign Service for 16 years. Later on, he held senior positions in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Bhutan Postal Corporation Ltd. He has been a consultant since 2008 working on several assignments for the Bhutanese Government and international organizations. In 2017, he briefly taught Development Economics at the College of Natural Resources, Royal University of Bhutan, Lobesa. He has contributed many articles to Bhutanese newspapers and other clients on topics as varied as Industrial development, trade and environment and socio-economic development. He is co-Founder of and the prime force behind the Centre for Recharge on Bhutanese Society organization on 2020 in Thimphu. He participates regularly in discussions on regional integration in South and Southeast Asia organized by research institutions in the region. His first book published in 2012 is titled "Vaishnavism" a revered Hindu tradition. As an active member of the Hindu Dharma Samudaya of Bhutan (HDSB), his contributions towards the Hindu Dharma in Bhutan are well known.
